Energy Management

Energy management commences at the design stage of the project, in order to effectively manage energy you have to be able to measure and control it.

Conserving and minimising energy use requires careful and considered design of not only the building engineering services, but also the whole building envelope, orientation etc. PSA are able to advise architects and clients on many of the decisions/requirements in the early stages of a projects development to ensure a co-ordinated design is developed and there is controlled use of energy.

This co-ordinated design approach ensures the resulting designs incorporate passive measures wherever possible, and maximises the use of low energy plant and equipment, heat recovery, ventialtion etc. into the building construction.

Control systems that are fully tailored to the building engineering services and use of a building, are vitally important to ensure the optimum performance of the building engineering services to maintain comfort conditions and minimise energy use. It is also important that the control systems whilst being comprehensive, are not over complicated given particular applications. PSA as low carbon consultants always strive to carry out control system designs and specifications fully tailored to allow end users to manage and control energy effectively and efficiently.

Many of our designs exceed building regulation requirements regarding energy metering, as PSA are fully committed to providing clients with the means necessary to monitor and record energy usage. These designs can range from simple check meters, to fully integrated networked systems able to produce a range of output and historical trend data. Data retrieved from these systems is able to be analysed against historical trends and national benchmarks for energy and weather data. PSA are able to provide these analysed assessments, or assist clients with their own assessments. The significance of such recording and analysis, cannot be over emphasised as it can highlight significant issues and allow pro-active actions to be taken.
