BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method)
What is BREEAM?
BREEAM provides a environmental assessment method for buildings, it provides a scoring system relating to the sustainable issues relating to the particular project. 50% of a BREEAM assessment relates to mechanical and electrical services, therefore, our input is required at an early stage in the project to advise on sustainable issues.
Due to our knowledge of the BREEAM scheme, we have been employed to carry out BREEAM pre-assessments on several projects and are able to advise/carry out reports and calculations so BREEAM credits can be achieved. The NHS, Local Government and the Education sector have all embraced the BREEAM assessment method.
BREEAM provides clients, developers, designers and others with
- Market recognition for low environmental impact buildings
- Assurance that best environmental practice is incorporated into a building
- Inspiration to find innovative solutions that minimise the environmental impact
- A benchmark that is higher than regulation
- A tool to help reduce running costs, improve working and living environments
- A standard that demonstrates progress towards corporate and organisation environmental objectives.
WHAT BUILDING TYPES ARE ASSESSED?
BREEAM other buildings
BREEAM other buildings can assess buildings that fall outside the standard BREEAM categories, including leisure complexes, laboratories, community buildings and hotels at the design stage and post construction.
Due to the BREAM assessment containing approximately one third mechanical and electrical related credits, Pettit Singleton Associates (PSA) are well positioned to advise clients on their requirements. PSA have carried out many pre-assessments for clients to enable compliance with BREEAM or just to work towards this standard without the certification. We have vast experience working on projects over the past 5 years that have been working towards the BREEAM accreditation, therefore we have been asked by our clients to provide a BREEAM service. We have partnered with a well established BREEAM Assessing company to provide the full and accredited assessment. We are able to provide a consultancy service by giving clients advice on which credits may be suitable for their needs, and the possible financial implications along with the accreditation. We would recommend that we are involved in a project as early as possible, in order that credits are not lost and the most competitive solution can be found.
